General information about creating an Ontology in Ontostudio
The software Ontostudio from our partner Ontoprise allows you to create your own ontology with simple steps. For a later import into SharePoint, the ontology must be saved as an OXML-File. It is also possible to import an existing ontology in Ontostudio to convert it into the required OXML-Format. Keep the following information in mind when creating an ontology:

·         Always write identifier names in OntoStudio without spaces, special characters and um-lauts (you may create them as representations)

·         For all objects specify the representation to all necessary languages (Background: The representations will become content columns in SharePoint)

·         Do not use representations twice (e.g. for different relations)

·         Root-Concepts are not linked to a SharePoint-Concept after importing them to SharePoint (See the manuals for further description)

·         Relations between several domains/ranges are not imported either. (SharePoint does not allow 2 equal Content Columns, this leads to an error message in the converter, you must create 2 relations out of it)

·         Multiple valued relations cannot be assumed, they are not represented in SharePoint

·         Recommendation: Always write relations with their domain und range within the identifier (e.g. „SolutionBelongsToSystem“ and not just „BelongsTo“)

New content for "Semantics for SharePoint"-Guideline

Our product-suite "Semantics for SharePoint" is deeply integrated in SharePoint. Therefore, we tried to write a guideline as a Best Practice example in which we create a semantic Searchcenter in 12 steps (Milestones).

This guideline has new content now, a graphic, that shows the 12 steps in an easy way.

Semantics for SharePoint

In addition, there is a little note where you may enter all necessary paths to the Websitecollection of the Meta Ontology and to the Deployment-Site.

Furthermore, we added general information for creating an Ontology in Ontostudio.

Last but not least I recommend the glossary to you, because while developing this software, some new wording came up. Just take a look at the glossary, if you're not sure what it's all about.

Have fun creating your Searchcenter...
